The 53cm tall bronze sculpture has an abstract design, yet it is reminiscent of an anthropomorphic figure. It conveys something soaring. Where the bronze is connected to the base it tapers, which further enhances the appearance of weightlessness. The base made of simple, untreated wood provides a beautiful contrast to the elegant bronze.
Also in his work “RISING GROUP”
Churkin creates a similar contrast with a concrete base from which his sculpture rises.
The distinctive details on the surface of the plastic are particularly beautiful.
Justus Churkin is a Berlin sculptor from the 1960s. One of his most important works is the “WRISING GROUP” from 1963, which is installed at the Blaschkoallee subway station in Britz.
