Neoclassical in form, having a square stepped base with a Corinthian column stem. The detachable five-light candle arm with scrolling branch and Corinthian capital form sconces.
In very good condition, there are a few minor dents in places. A solder spot to the underside of one nozzle. Please refer to the photographs.
The detachable candle arm weighs 1815 grams. An accurate weight cannot be provided of the silver within the columned base, as this is weighted.
Hallmarks are rubbed. The detachable arm is marked for ‘i’ 1924-1925. The column is marked for ‘k’ 1925-1926. The difference in hallmark years would suggest the candelabra was made across two calendars years.
Silversmiths, including prominent companies like Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co, crafted both traditional candelabras and later, electrified versions like this one. As electricity became more common, these higher end companies adapted their designs, creating lamps and other electrified versions of their traditional wares. This candelabra has more recently been used solely with candles.
