Pamono Vincenzo Gemito, Bust Sculpture of Nude Woman, 20th Century, Gilded Bronze> Art Nouveau

Impressive bronze bust depicting a young naked woman, created and signed by the Neapolitan artist Vincenzo Gemito, with a base in green Alpi marble. The woman depicted in profile is beautiful, reminiscent of women portrayed in the fascist era, with an imperious and serious pose, classic of that period. The sculpture can be dated around 1920 and the wonderful patina that covers it confirms our dating. The woman has her hair gathered at the nape of her neck, a very popular hairstyle in the fascist period. The breast is barely visible and the shoulder raised upwards in front of the woman’s face gives the sculpture a connotation of particular pride. Note the beauty of the muscles that can be glimpsed on the back and the hair separated one by one.

Useful information for the evaluation of the object:
Vincenzo Gemito boasts numerous auction results and from our research we find that the four highest results obtained by his sculptures range from over €47,000 up to over €101,000, excluding auction fees of 25-30%, this just to give an idea of ​​the importance and value of the works of this sculptor. Then, we found the same sculpture, without a marble base, a work entitled “Busto di Fanciulla Napoletana”, sold at auction in 2021 by Sotheby’s auction house in the United Kingdom, lot number 112, for a total price of €10,328 including auction fees. Our sculpture is of the same size and of the same artistic quality, but it also has a base in green alps marble, very rare, which undoubtedly increases its value.

About the artist and/or manufacturer:
Vincenzo Gemito (Naples, 1852 – 1929) was an Italian sculptor, designer and goldsmith. Self-taught, for the most part, and intolerant of academic canons, Gemito trained by drawing from the alleys of the historic center of Naples and from the sculptures of the archaeological museum. Gemito’s artistic production includes vigorous drawings, terracotta figures and a large number of sculptures mainly made of bronze, all depicting Neapolitan folk subjects or scenes.
