Cast in iron and retaining remnants of their original black painted finish, these sculptural cappings were designed not only for practical use atop estate gateposts but also as striking emblems of refinement and status. Composition & Technique. Modelled with naturalistic precision, each horse bust conveys vitality through finely articulated musculature, attentive ears, and a noble expression. Weighing over 8.5 kg apiece, they reflect the robust technical standards and artistic sensibilities associated with the Glasgow School of design. Their patinated surfaces—with traces of original paint, historic wear, and weathered texture—lend authenticity and depth.
