An Antique traditional Russian Icon of the “Holy Apostle John the Theologian” in tempera on panel. This icon was hand painted and gilded on oak wood in the 19th century.
This authentic Icon, from the estate of a collector, pictures St John, the Theologian in Silence, holding the Gospel. The holy, glorious and all-laudable Apostle and Evangelist John (also John the Theologian or John the Divine) was one of the original twelve Apostles, and wrote the Gospel bearing his name. St. John was the son of Salome the myra-bearer and Zebedee, a fisherman. His brother was St. James, another apostle. In his own Gospel account, he refers to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved” rather than use his name. He was the youngest of the twelve apostles, and especially close to the Lord.
This portrait of Saint Joseph holding a pen is a stunning addition to any home or sacred space. Hand crafted and painted in the 19th century with rich gold finish, this icon not only enhances the beauty of the artwork but also symbolizes the divine light and wisdom that Saint Joseph embodies. The image captures the gentle yet strong presence of this beloved saint, making it a perfect piece for those seeking inspiration and guidance in their daily lives. The pen in his hand signifies the importance of communication and the written word, reminding us of the power of faith and intention.
