This is a unique letter written by Brindisi to a friend in 1961, in which he recounts his struggle to work on a series of works on fascism, which he created between 1960 and 1961. The letter is accompanied by a drawing, a sketch for the large-scale work ‘Last Night of Claretta Petacci and Mussolini’ (oil on canvas, 180 x 200 cm), in which faces are grotesquely transfigured to represent historical horror. It is the work of the prominent Italian painter Remo Brindisi, whose painting, based on a descriptive and realistic approach in his early works, added expressionist nuances in his later works, giving rise to his own neo-figurative language.
