Out of the Cage (Blue) is a lyrical, experimental glass sculpture conceived by Spanish-born, Mexican-based designer Gala Fernandez and realized by acclaimed glass manufacture Nouvel Studio in Mexico City.For her new collection, Out of the Cage, Fernandez worked with the skilled artisans of Nouvel Studio to blow liquid glass in and through found metal birdcages of various sizes and shapes. Once homes to colorful pet birds, these discarded cages have had new life (literally) blown into them—such a wonderful and vibrant conversation piece!Fernandez is a Spanish designer currently living and working in Mexico City. Citizen of the world, she has lived in Italy, France, UK, Portugal, and Spain and has worked with Jaime Hayon at Fabrica and consulted for El Ultimo Grito, among others. To boot, she is partner and consultant at Abierto Mexicano de Diseño, the Mexico City Design Festival founded in 2013.In addition to this beautiful blue sculpture, the designer invites clients to commission custom pieces to order, specifying the color of the glass as well as the size, style, and age of the cage.
