He was trained by another great norwegian jeweler David Andersen from 1889-92 in filigree work, passed a journeyman’s exam in 1901 and continued with David Andersen until 1904.
Holmsen established his own silver business in Oslo (formerly Kristiania) in 1904, after working as an apprentice and later master with the famous Norwegian silversmith David Andersen.
