A variant leather seated chair like this one is in the collection of the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich.
This was one of Aalto’s (1898-1976) first designs (1929). The chair was also in close cooperation with the manufacturer Otto Korhonen (1884-1935).
The chair has the original patina, with the birch being waxed, showing marks and loss to the finish in places. The leather has some signs of use as expected, with scuffs, marks and minor losses.
The tops of the front legs have some hairlines to them, these are solid. It looks like they have been glued at some point in the past. The chair as a whole is sturdy and very usable.
Two pins remain where the import Finmar Ltd celluloid label would have been attached. The pencil date and signature is a nice touch.
