Pamono Large Painted Folk Art Chest, 1753> Trunks Crates & Baskets

Rather large painted wedding casket from southern Germany. The coffin has a very rustic look and shows plenty of character. The whole is primarily painted in a soft blue color and decorated with panels which have floral and religious paintings. And so does the wedding date, 1753. This original paint is quite worn which gives the whole a highly decorative appearance. The chest is in a neat but used condition. There are sporadic traces of old woodworm, which of course have been checked and treated. It used to be customary to give wedding furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was then placed on the farm in a showroom that was only rarely used for high visits or special occasions. So a beautiful and decorative piece of history. 54cm high, 157cm wide, 55cm deep.
