The reverse depicts the Marian symbol of the entwined letters A and M, standing for ‘Auspice Maria’ (Latin – ‘Under the Protection of Mary’) to a ground of encircled crosses. The medal is attached to a yellow gold nappy pin or safety pin. Stamped with the eagle’s head for French manufacture and 18 karat gold, and an unknown maker’s mark.
