The Cona coffee maker, also called a siphon or vacuum coffee maker, is an emblematic device in the world of coffee, renowned for its elegant design and its unique mode of operation, halfway between chemistry and craftsmanship.
The principle is based on the physics of pressures:

Water is heated in the lower container, which creates steam and causes the water to rise in the upper container.
The ground coffee is mixed in this upper container, where the brewing takes place.
When the heat source is removed, the cooling creates a vacuum in the lower container, drawing the brewed coffee through a filter. The residue remains in the upper container.

The Cona coffee maker was invented by British chemist Robert Napier in the early 1900s. He filed a patent in 1910 for an innovative coffee brewing system based on the siphon or vacuum principle. The Cona brand, which takes its name from a contraction of “Conical”, was founded to market this device.

What sets the Cona coffee maker apart from other siphon coffee makers is its refined design and emphasis on quality materials, including the use of borosilicate glass.
