Pamono Antique Empire Lucchese Chest of Drawers in Walnut Burl, 19th Century> Work On Paper

Impressive three-drawer crossbow chest of walnut-root from Lucca, early 19th century. The main elevation is designed by three wide drawers arranged on three rails, the highest of which is slightly less capacious, all marked by a double, thin maple-wood fillet lap. Notched uprights with raised apexes and ferine protome desinences on all four feet, stylistic features that allow us to ascribe the cabinet to early Empire cabinetmaking in Lucca. The workmanship of the briarwood arranged “in the head” on the band underlying the top is painstaking, as is the skillful work of the craftsman who carved and engraved the lion-shaped feet in solid wood. Important accent is given to the refined arrangement of the walnut briar that takes up the whole scene almost covering the scanning of the three drawers and giving the front of the dresser dignified elegance.
