Online Pamono Otto Dill, Rural Landscape, 20th Century, Oil Painting on Cardboard

Oil on cardboard depicting a rural landscape, houses with a woman’s yard and a pond with ducks, signed Otto Dill lower right. The painting is textured and clearly demonstrates how the artist’s work was heavily influenced by the Impressionist movement, which originated and developed long before his own. All the works up for auction share the same brushstroke and style. Otto Dill (1884-1957) is an important German painter who was part of the Munich Secession movement and boasts numerous auction results.

We also found numerous paintings, very similar to ours in pictorial style, color palette and subjects depicted, although most larger than ours, sold at auction for very high prices, including an oil on canvas sold for €12,806 by Lempertz in Cologne, Germany, at the “MODERNE KUNST – GEMALDE – PLASTIK – AQUARELLE – HANDZEICHNUNGEN – GRAPHIK – ILLUSTRIERTE BUCHER – APPENWERKE” auction on 10/06/1995, lot no. 280, entitled “Landschaft in der Pfalz”. Final considerations on the item:
We have no documents or expertise confirming the authenticity of the work, although I can confidently state that the painting is 100% original, in my opinion, of course. The cardboard backing is clearly from the early 1900s, the signature is identical to those on various paintings up for auction, and photographs under a Wood’s lamp demonstrate that the signature is contemporary with the painting, not added later (otherwise it would be fluorescent), and is completely under the patina. Furthermore, we cleaned the painting ourselves, and the pigment’s reaction to solvents is consistent with a painting that is approximately 100 years old, with color that has hardened well over time and is quite resistant to solvents.
