Online Pamono Leonid Frechkop, Nude with a Fur Coat, 1920s, Oil on Canvas

Leonid Frechkop (1897–1982), painter and art critic, is a significant figure in Russian and Belgian art. Born on November 6, 1897, in Moscow, he trained under renowned masters at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. After leaving the USSR in 1921, he settled permanently in Belgium in 1922, where he worked as a theater decorator and mingled with intellectual and artistic circles, including Paul Delvaux.

His works draw inspiration from his extensive travels, from Provence to the Taurus Mountains in Turkey, with a notable stay in Argentina in 1935. A translator of Russian poetry and author of articles on Belgian art, Frechkop embodies the dialogue between artistic creation and critical reflection.
