Elegant set of 6 silver-gilt jam spoons, made between 1824 and 1836.
Restoration Period, France
In Louis XV style, the sleeves are decorated with rocaille, foliage and shell scrolls.
The backs of the spoons are devoid of ornamentation.
Usually, jam spoons were used for jam makers. Designed to fit into the gaps in the jam makers, this explains the fact that they are thinner and that their backs are without ornamentation.
Raphael head punch and “face mask inside the spoon” punch inside the spoon. Goldsmith’s mark on the back of the sleeves,
Raphael’s head hallmark = 800 silver (for the period 1819-1838)
“Facial mask” hallmark = medium-guaranteed hallmark inscribed on medium-sized silver works
Vermeil is a film of gold affixed to solid silver.
