The drawing is accompanied by a letter signed by Dario Fo, dated 1968, addressed to Mrs. Elena Pelizzoni of Ceramica Fiori Oscuri, in which the great artist explains that he was induced to create this sketch in the hope of participating in the creation of a series of wall plates for the factory, signed by a number of renowned artists. Dario Fo created a study for the figure of a Jester, an epithet attributed to him both literally, for his artistic figure linked to the tradition of medieval jesters, and figuratively, as one who “mocks power by restoring dignity to the oppressed,” as cited in the citation for the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to him in 1997. Dario Fo was an Italian playwright, actor, director, writer, author, illustrator, painter, set designer, activist, and comedian. Framed work.
