The way in which they applied the tiles to decorate floors and walls liked the Portuguese kings and thus, from the 15th century, they became a prominent place in architecture. It can be said that Portugal adopted them in a unique way, like no other European country. In the 18th century the tile “invaded” churches and convents, palaces and houses, gardens, fountains and stairways. with geometric motifs, telling stories of the life of saints or profane themes such as the La Fontaine fables, sometimes with text as if it were a comic book ancestor, they became one of the main Portuguese decorative elements.
