Hot Pamono Lacquer Urushi Wajima-Nuri Trays, Set of 2

A rare and refined set of two round Japanese urushi lacquer trays, crafted in Wajima – renowned for its exceptionally durable and luxurious lacquerware (Wajima-nuri). The two trays nest elegantly together and come complete with their original inner and outer packaging, highlighting the authenticity and the great care with which they have been preserved.

Dimensions: height 2 cm, diameter 25.5 cm and 24 cm

Both trays feature a deep, warm brown lacquer and are decorated with elegant floral patterns. One tray displays a band of red-engraved floral motifs, while the other shows a more subtle brown design. Both are accented with delicate gold vines and leaves, giving them an understated yet luxurious appearance.

The underside bears a red seal with the inscription 輪島塗 石畑製 (Wajima-nuri Ishihata sei – made by Ishihata, Wajima lacquerware). The original paper packaging also refers to the workshop: 輪島塗器製所 石畑喜太郎 (Wajima-nuri shokiseijo Ishihata Kitarō), a workshop specialized in high-quality lacquerware. The outer box is labeled 輪島塗丸盆二枚 – “Two round Wajima lacquer trays.”

Period: Early Meiji. In very good condition, with light signs of age consistent with their use and history.

A remarkable and elegant pair – rarely found complete with original packaging – that is both functional and highly collectible.
