“Medizinalliege” by the Luckhardt brothers, dark stained, Thonet / Frankenberg from 1938. Like the “Bauhaus”, the brothers were radical advocates of the “Neuen Bauens”. They ran an architectural practice together from 1921 to 1954 – from 1924-34 together with the Jewish architect Alfons Anker under the name “Gebrüder Luckhardt und Anker” – and were members of the “Arbeitsrat für Kunst”, the “Gläserne Kette” (Max Taut) and the progressive architectural group “der Ring”.
The Kluge country house in Berlin Charlottenburg, completed in 1934, is now known as the Luckhardt Villa. In the 1930s, the brothers also designed furniture made of steel and wood that are now considered modern design classics, such as the Desta S 36 cantilever chair or the Siesta medical couch for Thonet in 1936.”
