Amber is petrified, fossilized tree resin and is one of the oldest and most sought-after precious and decorative stones in the world. As early as the Bronze Age, amber was transported from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean along established trade routes, the so-called Amber Roads.

The name of the gemstone comes from the Low German “Börnsteen” (burning stone) and refers to its flammability. In ancient mythology, amber played a significant role as it was considered a creation of the gods. In the Middle Ages it was said to have special healing powers, and Hildegard von Bingen used it for stomach problems and bladder problems. Amber has always been considered a protective stone, but is primarily valued as a stone of joy of life and optimism.
