Born from the imagination of ceramicist Suzanne Dauliach (born in the 20th century), this pitcher, signed under the base, comes from her studio at “La Bartavelle” in Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves, Savoie, during the 1970s, where she was most productive, offering artistic and utilitarian ceramics and stoneware.
Marked by a very popular and rustic style, Suzanne Dauliach’s works are all unique and similar due to their speckled glaze, typical of the pyrite-glazed stoneware of the mid-century era. Flowers, particularly thistles, as seen here on the face of the pitcher, are often featured as the artist’s “signature,” as well as this “ball” shape!
Although little-known to the general public, Suzanne Dauliach and her world are instantly recognizable! She has successfully reclaimed the pyrite stoneware of the 1970s and the local styles of her region to create her own unique, artisanal creation.
